Wissett Biodiversity Network

creating a wildlife friendly village

Assess

To enhance the biodiversity we have in the village we first need to understand the habitats we already have. A parish survey and subsequent map has been created which identifies key habitats and can be viewed via the above tab.

Enhance

From the initial mapping we are seeking ways to bolster and connect these habitats through community based workshops and positive land management. We aim to support local land owners in a more wildlife friendly approach

Record

Another key component is to create a comprehensive record of both the flora and fauna. A series of community surveys are proposed, together with toolkits to allow individual residents to monitor and record local species.

Creating a series of connected and community managed habitats

about us

Community Managed Landscapes

We are very fortunate to have a large network of meadows, woodlands, ponds and hedgerows in our parish. These habitats support a vast number of local wildlife which are seen and enjoyed by the many local residents who walk or dwell in our beautiful landscape.

Many of these habitats are diminishing and under constant threat. This has led to a community working group being set up to not only monitor our wildlife but actively manage our land in a positive way to enhance the local biodiversity, therefore securing our wildlife for future generations who live here.
